Inspiration: Patricia A. Hannaway
As I venture into pastels, this is great stuff to look at. The simplicity of it is what strikes me the most; So much with so little. I find it easy to get mucky, and confused with this medium. But these drawings teach me to take the time to analyze the pose so I can reduce my line count and express raw feeling.

hi dan!!! wanted to say hello and thank you for your kind words about my drawings! I don't think you are 70 years too late.... but right on time. These days, there is a large push in realist art, that favors copying what one sees almost photographically. Those people, are many of my artistic colleagues from NYC. While they continued to go for greater photographic accuracy, I went towards animation, favoring movement, economy, and simplification over detail. The easiest thing is to copy what you see; the most difficult is to simplify what you see. It isn't what you put in; its what you leave out and how you emphasize what you want to say. It is all a discovery.... a humble journey to find your voice and style. I believe all great art, animation, music, writing and even science, is this grasp for the essential.
